Couples preference analysis

Not everything mild is an easy yes

The rule says the bolder the idea, the fewer people want it. It mostly holds - and then it breaks. A few things that sound completely tame collect fewer yes answers than anal sex or sex in a public place, and the reason has nothing to do with how daring they are.

57% of people say yes to anal sex. An erotic photo shoot as a couple gets 42% - and it is the photos, not the sex, that people turn down more often.

Four pairs where the tame idea loses

On top the practice most people would call daring, below one that sounds harmless. The percentage is the share of people who answered gladly or love it.

From the most common yes to the rarest

Color marks only the drawer a practice falls into in everyday talk. The drawers overlap: the most wanted things on this list are tame ones, and several tame ones sit below anal sex.

So where do those no answers come from

Some practices sound harmless and land at the bottom anyway. Two things keep coming back in them.

Something stays behind. The evening ends, the photos do not. They sit in a phone and come back in a backup. They can also reach someone else. All three photo sessions on this list are among the least wanted tame ideas.

You have to act. Playing a role means pretending to be someone else in front of a person who sees you at breakfast every day. It is easier to say yes to something daring as yourself than in a part you have to perform.

Method

Both partners answer separately, on their own phones, without seeing each other. Every percentage here is the share of people who chose gladly or love it - people, not couples, so a couple where one wants it and the other does not counts as half. A practice appears only once at least 100 different couples have answered it, and the whole page needs at least 500 couples. The split into daring and harmless is ours and deliberately covers only cases nobody would argue about. Anonymized and aggregated; no answer can be traced to a person or couple.
